OpenAI chief warns humanity may lose control of AI

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman warned that artificial intelligence may develop so rapidly that humans will no longer be able to understand or intervene in its actions, potentially losing control over the future. Speaking on September 23 at a UN Security Council meeting on AI and international security in New York, Altman described this scenario as "terrible." He noted that as AI systems become more autonomous, they could act faster than existing institutions can respond, and warned against excessive risk-taking in the competitive race. Altman also highlighted the risk of concentrating too much power in a few companies. The 10,228th Security Council session included other AI experts and company representatives, with discussions covering both the technology's potential and the danger of advanced systems escaping human control.
