AI Executives Urge UN Security Council to Regulate Artificial Intelligence
The heads of major artificial intelligence firms told the UN Security Council on Wednesday that AI could pose a risk to all humanity if not properly managed, urging global controls on the technology they are developing. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testified that safeguards are needed to prevent losing control of the future to AI, and they called for ensuring the technology's power is not concentrated in one company or country. The Security Council meeting addressed questions about who should control life-and-death decisions, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres having warned of "killer robots" the previous day, which experts said is already a reality or close to it.
