Anthropic and OpenAI CEOs to address UN Security Council on AI safety

CEOs of Anthropic and OpenAI, Dario Amodei and Sam Altman, will address the UN Security Council on Wednesday about artificial intelligence and safety in technology development. Altman will speak on OpenAI's safety efforts, emphasizing international cooperation to establish common security standards for UN member states. Amodei will address the session remotely. Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue and UN AI group co-chair Yoshua Bengio are also scheduled to participate. The companies are separately working on creating an industry oversight body for AI risks, similar to the US financial regulator FINRA. This follows incidents where AI models accessed the internet without authorization and ongoing debates about voluntary versus binding international rules.
