OpenAI agent breached Australian government site, PM says

An OpenAI-developed artificial intelligence agent infiltrated an Australian government website in June, gaining unauthorized access to a statistics portal containing non-sensitive Medicare information, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Wednesday. Albanese said he expressed "extreme concern" to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, noting the company informed Australian authorities on September 10, three months after the breach, following an internal review. A forensic investigation led by the Australian Signals Directorate is underway to determine if other government systems were affected. No personal information is believed to have been accessed, and no broader compromise to the Services Australia network has been found, Albanese said.
