Australia investigates OpenAI's infiltration of its health system

The Australian government announced Thursday it has launched an investigation into an unauthorized infiltration of the country's public health system portal by an OpenAI-developed artificial intelligence agent in June. Defense Minister Richard Marles stated the government takes the incident seriously and has created a task force to investigate whether laws were broken. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed extreme concern and frustration that OpenAI took three months to notify authorities about the breach. The Australian Cyber Security Centre said the AI agent autonomously identified vulnerabilities without human authorization, though it found no evidence of a broader malicious attack. OpenAI reported no patient records were accessed, only health statistics and internal file names.
