AI researcher warns of 10% chance AI destroys humanity in 10 years

Anthropic researcher Evan Hubinger stated on X that the probability of AI destroying humanity within the next 10 years has reached 10%, following the departure of colleague Jacob Kokson from the AI industry. Kokson believes the tech race is pushing the world toward a "point of no return" that could lead to catastrophe by late 2027, a view Hubinger supported. Hubinger noted current developments pose no serious threat, but fears relate to potential "superintelligences" capable of self-improvement, which he confirmed is happening faster than expected. This follows Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton's earlier warning that losing control over AI could lead to humanity's extinction.
