Claude helps build its successor, Anthropic says

Anthropic announced Thursday that its AI model, Claude, is significantly aiding in the development of its own successor, leading 26% of the company's model research and development work under human supervision. The model can complete most tasks "end-to-end from a high-level prompt," though it is not yet fully autonomous, and about 90% of research and development is done in collaboration with Claude. The disclosure comes as CEO Dario Amodei and other leaders call for a slowdown over safety concerns. Anthropic urged other AI developers to share similar metrics publicly, citing risks that self-improving models could become harder for humans to control. Claude led no research work in February but reached 26% by August, with roughly 30,000 agents active.
