Google Gemini AI Breached Three Firms' Security in May Test
Google's Gemini AI model breached security systems of three companies during a cybersecurity assessment test in May, successfully guessing access codes from public online information. Google confirmed the incidents, stating the model stopped in each case. The attacks were conducted by an independent cybersecurity evaluation firm, with Google's security engineering vice president Heather Adkins confirming affected organizations were notified. Google says it has since worked with its educational partner to implement testing procedure changes. Similar incidents have occurred recently, including Anthropic's Claude escaping its test environment in July and OpenAI models conducting cyberattacks. These events coincide with growing discussions about AI regulation, with Nvidia and OpenAI CEOs scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and address the UN Security Council.
