US researchers hack OpenAI with Claude chatbot's help
Cybersecurity researchers hacked into OpenAI with assistance from Anthropic's Claude chatbot, compromising multiple employee ChatGPT accounts and gaining potential access to software caches. The team reported the breach to OpenAI under its ethical hacking programme. The researchers at Hacktron AI used Claude to access accounts via an OpenAI staff forum, then made a harmless code change request on GitHub. They accessed but did not download code, and largely used OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol model for the operation. OpenAI thanked the researchers and said vulnerabilities were addressed, paying $6,500 under its bug bounty programme. The incident follows other safety concerns, including a July hack of Hugging Face and warnings about AI development pace.
