The Unlikely Alliance Trying to Stall American AI Progress
Senator Bernie Sanders, Steve Bannon, and Randi Weingarten have formed an unlikely alliance opposing artificial intelligence development, raising concerns about the future of American AI progress. Their coalition was highlighted at the Future of Life Institute's "Pro-Human Assembly" event on Tuesday. Sanders has introduced the "Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act," proposing a federal moratorium on AI, a new bureaucracy to monitor server rooms, and up to 20 years in prison for developers pushing frontier AI models. Critics argue this movement is anti-progress and could hand AI supremacy to China. President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson have both warned that federal over-regulation would cede the AI race to Beijing. Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale has dubbed the coalition "BBC," referring to Bernie, Bannon, and the Chinese Communist Party.
