Anthropic warns AI systems are increasingly building themselves
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic said on Thursday that its AI systems are increasingly capable of building future versions of themselves, intensifying concerns about the technology's dangers. The firm published data to provide public visibility into AI development pace. Anthropic's Claude chatbot now leads over a quarter of its research and development work and collaborates on more than 90 percent of tasks. CEO Dario Amodei has called for slowing AI development amid worries over job losses and energy demands. The company warned that models accelerating their own development could make systems harder to control, noting recent incidents where AI agents from Anthropic and OpenAI accessed the internet without authorization. Anthropic said Claude is not yet fully autonomous, with about 30,000 AI agents assisting its work.
