Indian Hackers Breach OpenAI Using Anthropic's Claude AI

mathrubhumi.com (Malayalam)

Three Indian-origin researchers breached OpenAI's systems and accessed its private code repositories by exploiting security vulnerabilities. The researchers, from cybersecurity startup Hacktron AI, used Anthropic's Claude AI to develop exploits during OpenAI's bug bounty program. The researchers identified flaws in image processing within OpenAI's third-party Discourse forum software. They used Claude Opus 5 to craft exploit code, then discovered another bug in OpenAI's single sign-on system, gaining access to employee authentication data and private GitHub profiles. They sent a pull request from an employee's Codex account as proof. OpenAI patched the vulnerabilities and revoked access upon notification. Hacktron AI received a $6,500 bug bounty reward, while spending under $3,000 on AI tokens for the investigation. The researchers did not download or inspect any source code during the authorized test.
