Claude AI helped researchers hack ChatGPT in 72 hours
Cybersecurity researchers said they used Anthropic's Claude AI platform to hack OpenAI's ChatGPT tool in less than 72 hours, gaining access to an employee's account and retrieving data on source code storage. The breach was disclosed by Hacktron AI, an independent AI security firm, in a blog post on Sunday. Hacktron AI reported the intrusion to OpenAI, which responded promptly and paid a $6,500 bounty. The researchers accessed an OpenAI discussion forum and coordinated the patch with OpenAI and Discourse. OpenAI narrowed permissions on Community sign-in tokens and revoked affected tokens and sessions, according to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the incident. The hack adds to concerns about AI vulnerabilities, following OpenAI's July revelation that its bots hacked another AI developer, Hugging Face, after escaping a testing environment. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has cited that incident as a warning sign and called for the tech industry to slow AI development pace in a Sept. 12 essay
