AfD gains in Saxony-Anhalt came from former non-voters and CDU supporters

The AfD won the state election in Saxony-Anhalt decisively, gaining support from beyond its traditional base, particularly from former non-voters and CDU supporters, marking a significant setback for the CDU. According to infratest dimap data, the AfD attracted approximately 170,000 previous non-voters and 82,000 former CDU voters, with smaller gains from FDP, Left, SPD, and Green voters. The CDU lost 82,000 voters to the AfD while gaining only 32,000 non-voters, falling to second place after winning in 2021. The Greens gained 17,000 former CDU voters, while the SPD lost voters to both the AfD and BSW. The Left lost 13,000 voters to BSW, and the FDP failed to clear the five-percent threshold, losing 19,000 voters to the AfD.
