Russia confirms Ukraine peace talks in Abu Dhabi as Melania Trump hosts ceasefire meeting
Russia confirmed Tuesday that peace talks with Ukraine and the U.S. will proceed next week in Abu Dhabi, while signaling a potential summit between Presidents Putin, Trump, and Xi Jinping to end the conflict. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin aide Vladimir Medinsky will lead Moscow's delegation at the Nov. 10-11 talks. Separately, the White House announced First Lady Melania Trump will host Russian and Ukrainian representatives Thursday to discuss a ceasefire in Kherson, following the end of a six-day pause in Oleshky that Ukraine accused Russia of using to reinforce positions. Peskov said plans for a trilateral Russia-U.S.-China leaders' meeting may be finalized soon, though Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has insisted Kyiv must be included in any negotiations, stating "Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine." The talks follow U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff's announcement that Washington will mediate, with European and NATO officials meeting in Brussels this week on security guarantees.
