Iran proposes seven-day plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that Tehran proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear negotiations within seven days if the United States meets a series of conditions. Araghchi stated the plan requires Washington to lift the naval blockade on Iranian ports, suspend sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and respect a ceasefire including Lebanon. He said the seven-day timeline begins once the US accepts the plan, with passage reopening by day six and negotiations starting on day seven. The White House said talks with mediators remain positive and constructive. The proposal follows stalled negotiations since the memorandum of understanding collapsed in July, with both countries holding talks this week in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Iran presented seven conditions to halt attacks in the strait, including sanctions relief and release of frozen assets.
