Iran presents US with seven-day plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that Tehran has presented Washington with a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to navigation within seven days. Araghchi met Tuesday with US President's envoy Steve Witkoff, after setting conditions for ending the war and reopening the vital waterway. Speaking at the UN in New York, he said Iran conveyed a concrete seven-day plan via Qatar, adding that if necessary conditions are met, the strait could reopen and traffic return to normal within a week. The plan reportedly calls for a seven-day halt to all hostilities in the Middle East, including Lebanon, the release of about $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, and ending the US blockade on Iranian ports. Iran would reopen the strait on the seventh day. A Revolutionary Guards spokesman also said ending fighting in Yemen is among Tehran's demands. The US and Iran had signed a memorandum of understanding in June, but the agreement collapsed and the region reignited.
