Iran's president says US holds key to ending war

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian says it is up to the United States to decide whether the war with Iran ends, expressing a desire for an agreement before the midterm elections. Pezeshkian told Fox News that Iran does not want to continue fighting and prefers dialogue over killing, insisting the U.S. must choose to end the conflict. He also told NBC News he wants a deal before the midterms, referencing a temporary ceasefire signed in June that collapsed, and stated Iran is open to inspections of its nuclear facilities. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, threatened to annihilate Iran at the UN and believes Tehran will wait until after the election to negotiate. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly defended Trump's stance, while Iranian hardliners threatened to expand the war to the Indian Ocean, and no breakthroughs have emerged from meetings between Iranian and U.S. envoys.
