Iran reaffirms nuclear rights at UN, rules out program withdrawal

Iran will not abandon its nuclear program or make concessions on its rights, including uranium enrichment, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Friday, even if the US accepts Tehran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking at the UN, said Iran will not surrender its "inherent right" to peaceful nuclear technology, while criticizing Israel for possessing nuclear weapons and refusing IAEA inspections. Iran's proposal includes reopening the Strait within seven days if the US lifts its naval blockade, releases frozen assets, and removes oil sanctions. Iran's nuclear doctrine remains unchanged, but the secretary of its Supreme National Security Council warned that US and Israeli actions could justify withdrawing from the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons, despite enriching uranium to 60%, while the IAEA estimates it holds 440.9 kg of that material.
