Tusk Vows No Retreat in Standoff with Poland's Constitutional Tribunal

cnn.gr (Greek) —

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared in a televised address on Saturday that his government will not back down in its conflict with the Constitutional Tribunal, following a police raid on the court building in Warsaw. Tusk defended the suspension of senior judges, arguing the court is not independent in its current composition and accusing the Law and Justice party (PiS) and President Karol Nawrocki of undermining his government's efforts to restore its proper function. He stated the government will not be intimidated. The address came hours after riot police were deployed outside the court and two senior judges were suspended. President Nawrocki cut short a trip to Senegal for consultations with parliamentary parties, which Tusk's Civic Coalition boycotted.
