Poland's Tusk Accuses President of Intimidating Judges in Court Dispute
Poland's government and President Karol Nawrocki are locked in an escalating dispute over the Constitutional Tribunal, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk accusing the president of intimidating judges and calling him an "aggressive thug." Tusk's remarks followed a video showing Nawrocki, a former amateur boxer, pushing past protesters and pressing down on a female judge while entering the court building on Friday night. The conflict began after the court's website announced the suspension of its president and deputy, replacing them with Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, sparking protests from right-wing opposition supporters. Nawrocki met with parliamentary faction representatives on Saturday without concrete results, while the EU Commission said it is closely monitoring the situation and stressed the court must operate in line with Polish law and EU jurisprudence.
