Poland's Tusk Condemns President's Court Intervention in Constitutional Tribunal Standoff
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk sharply criticized President Karol Nawrocki's actions at the Constitutional Tribunal, escalating a power struggle over the court. Tusk stated that in a rule-of-law state, "muscles and insolence" do not decide who is right. Tusk condemned Nawrocki's nighttime visit to the court, where video showed the former amateur boxer pushing past protesters and pressing down a female judge. He called the incident a further step in destroying the rule of law by the PiS party and its allied presidents. Nawrocki met with parliamentary representatives on Saturday, but Tusk's Civic Coalition and the Left refused to attend, citing unclear purpose. The EU Commission said it is closely monitoring the situation, stressing the court must operate per the constitution and EU law.
