Omani co-pilot faces possible death penalty in UAE over alleged plane crash plot
An Omani co-pilot for Flydubai could face the death penalty in the UAE after allegedly attempting to crash a plane traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The 29-year-old suspect, Hamam al-Hamami, reportedly told investigators his dream was to crash the aircraft into Israel's Ben-Gurion Airport. The co-pilot had been employed by Flydubai for eight months and had reportedly researched flights to Israel, even visiting the country months prior. He allegedly planned the operation before being hired and had initially intended to carry out the attack in July, but postponed it due to a friendship with a crew member. Investigators have found no evidence linking al-Hamami to any terrorist organization, stating he planned and attempted the attack alone. He reportedly aimed to crash the plane quickly to prevent Israeli fighter jets from intercepting, and questioning is ongoing.
