flydubai copilot planned to crash plane into Israel's Ben-Gurion Airport

rbc.ua (Russian) —

A second pilot for flydubai confessed to planning to crash a passenger plane into Israel's Ben-Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, according to interrogators in the UAE. The pilot admitted the plan existed before he was hired by flydubai, and he deliberately sought work with airlines flying to Israel. He had previously flown to Tel Aviv earlier this year with the same intention but aborted the plan at the last moment, with Reuters reporting he knew a passenger on that flight. On September 30, the Abu Dhabi-to-Tel Aviv flight transmitted hijack codes, prompting Israeli fighter jets to escort it. The aircraft was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.
