Flydubai co-pilot confesses to plot to crash plane into Ben Gurion Airport
The co-pilot of Flydubai flight 1073 confessed to planning to crash the plane into Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, according to Israeli broadcaster Channel 12. The 29-year-old Islamist allegedly acted alone. Hamam al-Hammami reportedly flew to Israel multiple times to gather information and originally planned the attack for July, but postponed it due to a friendship with a crew member. On September 30, he attacked the pilot to seize control of the aircraft. The attack was thwarted when passengers entered the cockpit after the injured pilot opened the door. Saudi Arabia has extradited the Omani national to the United Arab Emirates, where he is being interrogated. Israel and Saudi Arabia are conducting their own investigations.
