Flydubai copilot planned Israel airport attack, authorities say

noticiasaominuto.com (Portuguese) —

Authorities believe the Flydubai copilot who attempted to hijack a plane planned to crash it into Israel's Ben Gurion Airport or a residential building in Tel Aviv, according to Israeli and US media citing investigation sources. Omani citizen Hamam Al-Hammami allegedly acted alone, attacking the pilot before intending to execute the attack, similar to the September 11 strikes. He reportedly told interrogators he had considered hijacking an earlier flight but changed his mind due to a known passenger onboard. Al-Hammami was previously barred from flying by Oman Air over extremism concerns but was hired by Flydubai after standard checks. Australia is investigating his alleged links, as he studied there from 2015 to 2017.
