Flydubai co-pilot confesses to plot to crash plane into Israel's Ben Gurion Airport
A flydubai co-pilot confessed to plotting to crash a plane into Israel's Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, according to Israeli media reports. The alleged plan was thwarted after the captain regained control of the aircraft. The suspect, identified as Hamam al-Hammami, told investigators he intended to eliminate the captain and fly the plane normally to avoid raising suspicion, before crashing it into a building or aircraft at Ben Gurion. He reportedly waited until the flight entered Jordanian airspace to attempt the takeover, but the captain fought him off and opened the cockpit door for passengers to intervene. Ben Gurion is Israel's largest airport and a heavily protected site, also hosting US refueling aircraft. The suspect had visited the airport multiple times in recent months and planned an attack in July, but canceled it due to knowing a crew member. Israeli investigators have not directly questioned him, relying on information from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
