New Zealand police confirm Flydubai co-pilot trained in the country before stabbing

shorouknews.com (Arabic) —

New Zealand police confirmed Tuesday that the Flydubai co-pilot who allegedly stabbed the captain last week had completed part of his flight training in the country. He resided in New Zealand from November 2018 to May 2019 on a six-month student visa. Police records show he arrived on November 30, 2018, and left on May 23, 2019, to train for a UK-based company no longer operating in New Zealand. Authorities are reviewing his time there, while an Australian counter-terrorism unit also investigates his links. The attack occurred on flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 172 passengers, mostly Israelis. The wounded Indian captain opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to subdue the attacker before an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
