Flydubai co-pilot planned to crash plane into Tel Aviv airport, Israeli sources say

nos.nl (Dutch) —

Israeli sources say the Flydubai co-pilot who stabbed his captain likely intended to crash the plane into Tel Aviv's international airport. He reportedly also considered hijacking a flight to Tel Aviv earlier this year but abandoned the plan. The suspect, identified by Reuters as Omani national Hammam al-Hammami, attacked the pilot with an emergency axe on flight FZ1073. The wounded captain unlocked the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to overpower the attacker. Two off-duty pilots landed the plane in Saudi Arabia. The man had been suspended from Oman Air for extremist material and studied in Australia from 2015 to 2017. He also spent time in New Zealand and took theory classes with Royal Air Maroc last year.
