Iran sets conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz, official says

Iran is preparing a list of conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to top security official Mohsen Rezaei, with ending the regional war among the requirements. Mediators had asked Tehran to set out its terms. Rezaei said Iran agreed with Oman on a shipping corridor through the strait, using a central channel in Omani and Iranian waters if the U.S. meets Iran's conditions. Iran also demands Washington lift a blockade, pay compensation, and remove sanctions. Before the war began in February, the strait carried about one-fifth of global oil and LNG shipments, but shipping has largely stopped since. Ceasefire agreements in April and June aimed to restore maritime traffic but did not hold.
