Iran says two more tankers ablaze in Strait of Hormuz

noticiasaominuto.com (Portuguese) —

Iran reported that two more oil tankers are on fire in the Strait of Hormuz after striking naval mines while using routes not authorized by Tehran, according to the official Irna news agency. Irna said the tankers, one in the eastern part of the strait and another within it, were "completely devastated by intense flames" after hitting mines. The agency did not identify the vessels' names or flags, adding they had disabled navigation and positioning systems. Tehran has made repeated claims of this nature in recent weeks, while Washington says it has largely cleared the crucial waterway. Iran controls the strait, which carried a fifth of global hydrocarbons before the late-February war triggered by Israeli-American attacks, and targets unauthorized ships.
