US Missiles Strike Iranian Island at Hormuz Strait
Iran reported that two missiles struck Qeshm Island at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, while President Donald Trump said the U.S. destroyed an Iranian "air defense device." Witnesses told state news agency IRNA that missiles hit the Suza area after aircraft were heard overhead. Open-source intelligence account AMK Mapping said the U.S. targeted an Iranian air defense launcher after it fired at an American F/A-18 fighter. Iran claimed it shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone over the island. Trump declined to confirm the strike but acknowledged "small-scale strikes" that destroyed Iranian-built equipment. CENTCOM said it was aware of explosions and the situation was "relatively quiet." Qeshm hosts a strategic missile base, and the U.S. has previously targeted it. Trump is weighing options including further strikes, economic pressure, or a deal with Tehran.
