Iranian Guard: Tankers Hit Mines in Strait of Hormuz
Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced that two oil tankers caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after hitting naval mines, coinciding with US forces disabling a ship in the Gulf of Oman and explosions heard in Hormozgan province. The Guard stated the tankers were attempting to cross unauthorized routes when they struck mines, with one vessel located east of the strait and the other inside it. Separately, US Central Command said it stopped a commercial ship in the Gulf of Oman after its crew ignored warnings, adding it has diverted 147 vessels and disabled 5 since resuming the naval blockade on Iran. Iranian state media reported loud explosions in coastal areas including Bandar Abbas, Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm Island, with officials denying external strikes and attributing the sounds to defensive measures by armed forces. The IRNA news agency confirmed two blasts east of Qeshm, while Fars noted similar sounds without confirming their source.
