US task force targets Iran's land and Caspian arms routes
The United States has established Task Force Iron Gate, comprising around 20 civilian and military personnel, to disrupt Iran's use of land routes and the Caspian Sea to transport advanced weapons, sanctioned materials and other restricted goods. US Central Command announced the task force on November 7, with Admiral Brad Cooper directing its creation. The team, based in Tampa, Florida, will coordinate with other US government agencies to target weapons systems, dual-use technologies and illegal revenue streams across Iran's land borders. The move expands US efforts beyond a naval blockade that has prevented over $25 billion in Iranian oil exports. Iran's IRGC Aerospace Force has meanwhile highlighted its domestic defence manufacturing capabilities and military self-reliance.
