Qatar continues mediating between US and Iran to prevent escalation
Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said Saturday that mediation efforts between the US and Iran continue to prevent regional escalation, with Washington still seeking a resolution after the midterm elections. Al-Thani reported significant progress and expressed confidence a settlement could be reached, though he acknowledged a perfect agreement is unlikely. Reports indicated two missiles struck Iran's Qeshm Island, but the US has not confirmed any attack. Countries in the region anticipated President Donald Trump could resume strikes on Iran after Tuesday's midterm elections. Iran has proposed a seven-day plan since September, rejected by Trump, which would lift port blockades and unfreeze assets in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
