US Central Command launches task force to curb Iranian weapons trade

jpost.com —

The US military is establishing Task Force Iron Gate, based in Tampa, Florida, to combat Iranian trade in advanced weapons and sanctioned material across land borders and the Caspian Sea, CENTCOM announced Saturday. The task force, coordinating with other US government agencies, will focus on weapons movement, dual-use items, and illegal revenue streams, with a staff of around 20 civilian and military personnel. CENTCOM's naval blockade has already prevented over $25 billion in Iranian crude oil exports, and Admiral Brad Cooper said the new effort will further constrain Iran's ability to finance terrorism and replenish its military.
