Explosions Rock Qeshm Island and Jask Port in Southern Iran

protothema.gr (Greek) —

New explosions were reported Saturday night on Qeshm Island and near the port of Jask in southern Iran, according to the state news agency IRNA. The causes and origins of the blasts remain unknown, though residents earlier reported intense aircraft activity. The explosions follow U.S. airstrikes against Iran on Friday, which targeted Qeshm Island with two projectiles aimed at neutralizing Iranian air defenses and missile launchers. President Donald Trump described the strikes as "limited in scope" amid growing concerns over further escalation between the two countries. Earlier Saturday, Iran's military said it shot down a U.S.-made MQ-9 drone using a new system, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have intercepted an MQ-1 drone. Additionally, Iran's navy reported a tanker struck a mine in the eastern Strait of Hormuz, though Washington says naval mines have already been cleared from the area.
