U.S. strikes Iran air defense system as Qatar pushes nuclear talks
The U.S. military conducted new limited strikes on Iran on Friday, targeting an Iranian air defence system, as President Donald Trump described the action as "minor." The strikes come amid ongoing Qatari-mediated diplomatic efforts and stalled nuclear talks. Iranian state media reported two explosions on Qeshm Island, a strategically important location for oil shipments. Trump said the target was destroyed in roughly five to fifteen minutes, though he provided no further details. The strikes are the first since the Republican Party's losses in Tuesday's midterm elections, which were partly driven by voter dissatisfaction with the conflict and elevated fuel prices. Iran is reviewing proposals from Qatar to address nuclear programme differences but remains unwilling to negotiate until the U.S. meets core conditions, including lifting sanctions and ending hostilities. The U.S. has also offered a reward of up to $20 million for information on Iran's nuclear programme.
