Iran's IRGC says ballistic missile range limit lifted
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced Saturday that its self-imposed limit on ballistic missile range, capped at 2,000 kilometers, has been lifted, potentially enabling longer-range capabilities amid heightened tensions with the US and Israel. IRGC spokesman General Hossein Mohebbi stated at a Tehran press conference that the restriction no longer applies, adding Iran would demonstrate capabilities in practice rather than through statements. The announcement follows a warning attributed to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khomeini of responses without geographical limits to any US or Israeli threats. Iran is not known to possess operational missiles exceeding 2,000 kilometers, though US officials have warned its space program could support intercontinental ballistic missile development. The news comes as US forces enforce a naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides reporting maritime incidents.
