US and UK partner to expand AI use in defense and protect strategic infrastructure

The US and UK have formed a new partnership to expand the use of artificial intelligence in defense, focusing on protecting strategic infrastructure and identifying security threats. The agreement will be formally announced Tuesday by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham at the UN General Assembly in New York. Under the deal, the UK's Defence Rapid AI Delivery Taskforce will work with the US Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office to accelerate development of shared systems and increase deterrence capabilities. The cooperation will cover protecting essential structures, including maritime routes and airspace, while enabling integrated operations between American and British systems. The partnership builds on existing AI military cooperation between Washington and London, including the AUKUS pact with Australia. The UK recently signed a separate AI defense agreement with Ukraine in August, and Burnham is scheduled to meet President Donald Trump during his New York visit.
