New US Congress Members Talarico and El-Said Back Military Aid to Ukraine
Democrats are projected to win majorities in both chambers of the US Congress following the November 3 midterm elections, a shift that could challenge President Donald Trump's agenda but offers no guaranteed change in Ukraine policy. Ukraine is losing several staunch Republican allies in Congress, including Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick, Don Bacon, and Michael McCaul, as well as Senators Mitch McConnell and Thom Tillis, who supported military aid and lobbied for long-range weapons. Incoming lawmakers James Talarico of Texas and Abdul El-Said of Michigan have voiced support for continued military assistance to Ukraine, while other Democratic newcomers like Annie Andrews and Adam Hamilton have also declared pro-Ukraine positions.
