Democrats Win Full Control of Congress in Midterm Rebuke to Trump
Democrats swept to full control of Congress in Tuesday's midterm elections, flipping at least seven Senate seats and 25 House seats while winning multiple governorships, delivering a major rebuke to President Donald Trump. The party seized the Senate with victories in North Carolina, Maine, South Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Kansas and Iowa, while also electing historic firsts including Black governors in Georgia and Wisconsin, Hispanic governors in California and Texas, and the Senate's first openly gay member. Trump said he accepted the results, though he later posted a "veto" hat on Truth Social. Several races remained undecided Wednesday, including Alaska and a tight Mississippi Senate contest. Democrats credited high turnout and voter anger over inflation and Trump, while Republicans warned of aggressive Democratic investigations when the new Congress convenes in January.
