Democrats win House and Senate in historic midterm sweep
Democrats won control of both the US House and Senate in Tuesday's midterm elections, delivering a historic defeat to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. The party flipped at least seven Senate seats and gained more than 20 House seats in what analysts called the biggest blue wave since 2006. Democrats won Senate races in traditionally Republican states including Kansas, Texas, Iowa, and Ohio, and flipped governorships in Georgia, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas. Abdul El-Sayed became the first Muslim elected to the US Senate, winning in Michigan. Trump acknowledged the Iran war's role in the losses but said he had no choice, while Vice President JD Vance blamed the conflict for the Republican wipeout. The results threaten Elon Musk's political investments, as Texas elected its first Democratic governor in over three decades. Democrats also won several districts Republicans had redrawn to favor their candidates. In Mississippi, Democrat Scott Colom led a razor-thin Senate race and said he was prepared to litigate if the result was contested.
