Democrats Win Congress in 2026 Midterm Rebuke to Trump
Democrats won control of Congress in Tuesday’s 2026 midterm elections, a widespread repudiation of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party that reached deep into GOP territory. Democrats flipped at least seven Senate seats, including in Kansas, Iowa, Texas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina and South Carolina, while holding battleground seats in Georgia and Michigan. They also flipped more than two dozen House districts and several governorships, giving them power to block Trump’s agenda and investigate his administration. The wave produced historic firsts, including the first Black female governor and first Muslim U.S. senator. Most voters blamed Trump’s administration for high costs and want Congress to impose more checks on him, according to The AP Voter Poll, though Democrats hold only a slim advantage on key issues.
