Democrats win Senate majority, flipping key states
Democrats have won a majority of seats in the U.S. Senate, according to ABC News projections, also taking control of the House in a wave of discontent over the economy and President Donald Trump. Key victories included Jon Ossoff in Georgia, who improved his margins among white voters and independents, and Annie Andrews in South Carolina, who benefited from a significant shift of white voters toward Democrats. Josh Turek won in Iowa, the first Democrat to represent the state in the Senate since 2008, while Sherrod Brown retook his Ohio seat and Adam Hamilton won in Kansas for the first time since 1932. Democrats also won in Texas, with James Talarico defeating Ken Paxton, propelled by strong support from younger voters and gains among Black and Hispanic Texans. Across these races, voter anger, negative views of the economy, and disapproval of Trump were key factors, with many 2024 Trump voters crossing over to support Democratic candidates.
