NATO chief: Putin 'about to panic' as Russia's war costs mount

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "about to panic" and "is not happy," citing economic impacts from the "mistake" of invading Ukraine, as "things are not going well for him." Rutte called a Russian invasion of any NATO member country "very unlikely," citing a Danish military intelligence report, but warned against naivety regarding Russia's military buildup, including "enormously" increased production and armed forces, and urged Europe and the US to develop further. Rutte cited estimates of up to 43,000 Russian casualties per month and said Putin "cannot be pleased" over four and a half years after the invasion, also warning of increased hybrid attacks and closer Russian cooperation with North Korea, Iran, China, and Belarus.
