Denmark warns Russia may strike NATO within months

Denmark's military intelligence agency has warned that Russia could conduct a limited military operation against a NATO country within the coming months, assessing the risk as low but growing. The agency's head, Thomas Arenkiel, said Russia might deploy a small number of troops, potentially without insignia, into a neighboring NATO state under the pretext of protecting local Russian minorities, or use long-range weapons against infrastructure supporting Ukraine, aiming to split the Alliance. A full-scale invasion is considered highly unlikely, requiring about six months of troop buildup. Denmark also warned of intensified Russian hybrid operations, including destructive cyberattacks and sabotage risking casualties. Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus stated Russia is under greater pressure than since the war began in February 2022 but is not achieving its goals. Danish authorities believe Moscow cannot make a significant front-line breakthrough in the next six months, with two years needed for a regional war threat and five for a large-scale European conflict.
