Russia denies CIA drone attack plans for Italy, France, Spain

ansa.it (Italian) —

A Spanish newspaper reported that Russia is preparing drone attacks from the sea against Italy, France, and Spain, based on US intelligence shared with European governments. Italy's Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated the alert finds no confirmation. The report claims Russia could use Gerbera drones launched from containers at sea, with all of Italy except the Northeast within range. Lithuania reportedly knew of the plans after CIA Director John Ratcliffe's August 25 Moscow visit, and the Italian government denied the existence of any CIA dossier. European Commission officials said the news is not surprising given known hybrid attacks, though no specific alert was received. Separately, Romania reported a small drone crashed in its northeast, and Moldova's president said four Russian drones violated its airspace.
