Denmark warns Russia may escalate hybrid attacks on NATO border states

Denmark's defence intelligence service warned Thursday that Russia is likely to intensify hybrid warfare against the West in coming months, with attacks carrying greater consequences for targeted nations than previously seen. The assessment cites a low but growing risk of a limited Russian military attack on NATO border countries, potentially involving drone strikes on Ukraine-supporting infrastructure, false-flag operations, or troop deployments under pretexts like protecting Russian minorities. Intelligence chief Thomas Ahrenkiel said the aim would be dividing NATO rather than territorial conquest. The warning follows Germany blaming Russia for an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, prompting EU sanctions calls. Denmark's Resilience Agency separately raised its cyber threat level, noting likely destructive attacks. Moscow denies hybrid warfare involvement, and the Russian embassy in Denmark didn't respond to requests for comment.
