Flávio Bolsonaro's escape route passes through bolsonarista stronghold in Foz do Iguaçu
The escape route of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro from Brazil passed through Foz do Iguaçu, a city with strong bolsonarista support, before he continued to Argentina, Ecuador, and finally the United States. No official details have been released about his exact path, transportation, or any assistance he received. Foz do Iguaçu is administered by bolsonarista Joaquim Silva e Luna and sits in the triple-border region, where nearby municipalities gave the senator up to 70% of valid votes in the 2022 election runoff. The area also hosts Leonardo Rodrigues de Jesus, known as Léo Índio, a fugitive cousin of Bolsonaro's older sons who lives in Argentina and celebrated Flávio's departure. The region has served as a crossing point for other bolsonaristas fleeing justice, including former deputy Carla Zambelli and former PRF director Silvinei Vasques. Argentine media filmed a Brazilian van at Porto Iguaçu airport transporting the senator and his family, while the Federal Police stated limitations on detaining him without an arrest warrant.
